Redirectionalism: Absolute Orthodoxy and the
Revelation of Jesus Christ
(2004) "Our interpretation of eschatology rests on Christ's
coming, as defined by His coming to His Firstfruits. Our conclusions
result in an interpretation that salvation is a process for each
individual and the church the exact same way it was for those who
lived during the generation of Jesus Christ. We understand that we
today must live and think just as the apostles and Jesus Christ, if
we, too, are to meet Christ. We cannot depart from the
sanctification and way of the Firstfruits (2 Cor. 11:4), for if we
could, that would then make us unorthodox, and leave us without a
claim to orthodoxy."

How Heaven and Earth Pass Away
(2007) "The way into the "new"
: Jerusalem, age, birth, man, heavens and earth, etc., all were very
much open long before AD70. The translation from "old" to "new" was,
however, waiting to be revealed in a most overt way for all to see.
As the Word of God says in Hebrews 9, "the way into the holiest of
all was "not made manifest while the first tabernacle was
still standing.""

Full Preterism vs. Idealism: Part Four : Full
Preterism's Single Dimension Focus
"Being a part of the kingdom had everything to do with the
manifestation of the new heart by those who believed. Those who had faith
(within) would act rightly (without). Those poor in spirit internally
would be meek, give the shirt off their back as well as their coat, take
the low seat in the house, carry their brothers burdens, and have ears to
hear -- all evidences of a softened heart to the gospel.
Those who lacked faith would contrarily manifest the fruits of the flesh.
We know Christians by their love, so beware of those who claim the name of
Christ yet manifest the opposite."

Full Preterism vs. Idealism: Part Three - Full
Preterism's "New" Gospel "So
what kept men from God. What stood in the way of God and man. The
law of Moses? By no means. If so Paul would have taught that it was
in the destruction of Judaism that would remove the veil. Instead
Paul said it was the Spirit that removes the veil. Full
Preterism must either submit to the idea that the law is still in
existence for everyone who is not in Christ, or submit to
Universalist interpretations. The law of Christ is the reality of
the shadow law of Moses. Removing the law of Moses, a copy, a
shadow, does not remove the veil. Only the Spirit removes the veil.

Full Preterism vs. Idealism: Part Two - Full
Preterism's Achilles Heel "The
issue here is the consistency in the approach. The devil is gone and
inactive, irrelevant and being tormented, and so is death. The same
punishment for both MUST produce the same results. Do I really need
to do a study on Romans to show that the death from Adam is still
going on today? Do I need to state anymore that the only way for
Full Preterism to answer the devil and death problem is to invent a
"new law" that humans break after AD 70, and a "new death" to
explain the lake of fire that Universalists get wrong? Reformed Full
Preterism must either depart from the Reformed grounding, lead to a
Universalist approach, or lead to an Idealist approach."

Full Preterism vs. Idealism, Part I :
Introduction
(2007) "In this stage of Full
Preterism, which I have recently come out of, there is the tendency
to hold onto Reformed soteriology in the face of Full Preterists who
would take the view all the way to Universalism. I was one of those
preterists (with that tendency). It was clear to me that Universalism was not correct
according to Romans, but it was also abundantly clear that Full
Preterism was crumbling from beneath me in the light of Consistent
Cessationism."

ALL FORMS OF
PARTIAL PRETERISM:
"HISTORICAL TYPES POINT TO HISTORICAL REALITIES"
|
"HORIZONTAL" OR "VERTICAL" ?
-
A good many partial
preterists have rightly recognized the typological nature of
the fall of Jerusalem in AD70. Unfortunately, what
good could come from this is sabotaged by the belief that the
historical shadows and types of that period point "horizontally" to
even more historical events (al a
the "personal return of Christ" at "the end of the world").
If they were to, rather, apply this historical model
"vertically" to higher, eternal realities in Christ, then
they would find their insight to be more profitable.
This also applies to futurist systems which see some
fulfillment of prophecy in AD70 yet more in the future.
|
PRETERISM / FULL PRETERISM:
"EXTERNAL, UNIVERSAL TRANSFORMATION IN AD70"
|
IN
HISTORY OR IN CHRIST?
-
Full Preterists do not
recognize the events of the Roman-Jewish war as being
typological in nature. Of ALL the imagery in the
history of Old
Testament Israel, the events of the first century are remarkably
seen as the only events exempt from typological employment! This is
due to the conviction that all previous typology generally points
"horizontally" to that fall -- and to nothing beyond.
Though some recognize that spiritual realities are to be
associated with that event, they are treated as either
"moral applications" of fulfillment (meaning that
any treatment of internal or spiritual things is
merely a secondary concern), or are considered to be
spiritual events which took place within the natural realm
"in AD70." A few believe that eternity follows the
same track as time does, and that AD70 in the natural realm
is also AD70 in the eternal realm... when events (such as the gathering of the previously living saints into
the kingdom) are supposed to have taken place.
-
By focusing on AD70 as
the critical dispensational turning point for the world, the ultimate
fulfillment of eschatology is seen as being accomplished "in
history" as opposed to finding their consummation "in
Christ." The secondary place generally given to
the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ in this system is
also unfortunate. This tendency leads to many debatable
conclusions, such as the destruction of the law, sin, death
and devil as being a historical reality for all humanity in
the post AD70 era.

QUOTES
FROM MODERN IDEALISTS
-
Marcus Booker "I suppose that you could say that the
question isn't "how" to interpret the text. There is no "how." The question
is "who?" Those who are humble before Him, God will not despise. He will
open their eyes. They may not be all-knowing, but they will understand as
much as they need to understand. They will be fed. The Preterists, as I have seen, have
interpreted the text utilizing the same assumption employed by the
Futurists. That assumption is singularity of meaning. In other words, you
presume that there is one dimension to the text; a verse may only mean one
thing. " (1)
-
Marcus Booker "Some Preterists, dare I
say hyper-Preterists, so over-emphasize the historical completion of
eschatological events that they fail to acknowledge individual and
recapitulatory eschatology (a concept that I will explain herein). These Preterists deny Idealism and, with it, the power of Preterism. What these
Preterists say, in effect, is that on every possible level, sin, death and
the law are done away. What I hope to show plainly is that the same concepts
that applied in the dissolution of the law apply uniquely toward individuals
today. (2)

HOW THIS
DIFFERS FROM
"HISTORICAL IDEALISM" |
Modern Idealism is
distinguished from Historical Idealism in that the old
Christian Idealist approaches, in which the historical
accounts of the natural life of Jesus are oftentimes
considered to represent the fullness of Old Testament
prophecies, are seen as deficient in discerning the
proper focal point of Bible Prophecy -- the eternal work
of Jesus Christ. Having the historical stage
as the absolute finality of prophetic intent in any
of these areas of God's revelation to man -- including in the symbol of the Cross -- results
in a view in which consummation and substance are historical in nature... and which
are almost always
yet to be received in the future at "the last day and the end of the
world." Modern Idealism, however, is past this historical
blunder, and recognizes -- with preterist chronologists -- that the
prophetic model of the eschaton has already
come in the last days of natural Israel. This
view ultimately differs from all chronologists, however, by seeing the "consummation
of the ages" as receivable solely in relationship with Jesus Christ ALONE -- not
able to be fixed at any particular point in history, past or future.
Though Historical Idealism is oftentimes rightly chided
as being without a hermeneutic -- except for a lawless
system of subjective moralizing -- such is not the case
with Modern Idealism.
